October 2

Homework:

Reading Response from 24 Newspaper
(did you forget it, you can get a copy of Tuesday's paper from:  http://eedition.toronto.24hrs.ca/epaper/viewer.aspx

Here is a sample that I did for the class based on the following article:
I originally assessed myself with a Level 2 (C) for this, but the Grade 7s suggested I add a few things to make it a Level 3

The Reading Response exercise will be done with a variety of reading materials.  I sometimes use the free daily newspapers available at the stand, the material the students are currently reading, or allow them choice.
The method of having them Retell, Relate, and Reflect encourages deeper connections and understanding with the material they are reading.  You may print a copy of this sheet and use it to do exercises at home with your son or daughter.

The Math homework is short and meant as a review for some problem solving type questions that we will get into tomorrow on Common Multiples.

Only questions 1, 3, 5, and 7 are to be done from the Math sheet.  The students can do the work right on the sheet.

We completed another New York Times, What's Going on in this Picture exercise.  Here is the photo, along with the answer to the question.

Although you can't click on the link above, there are some spectacular and tragic images of the flood during the Monsoon season.

This is Eric's response to the question.  The most detailed I read.

For those of you who don't know, Mumbai is a very larger city in India on the West coast.

Mr. Rodriguez, our school Guidance Counselor, had a couple of letters that were sent home.  One was for both the 7s and 8s, and the other was geared to the 8s in relation to making choices for high school.

Have a pleasant evening.
