This is the audio and video file, I think, of the model Book Talk I did on Lois Lowry's The Giver. I will see if it works. At the point of trying to upload this video, I don't think it is going to happen and it may not appear. If you don't see it, I was not successful with uploading it.
Here is an image of a very smart student who doesn't always apply himself to the best of his abilities:
The work we were doing had to do with coordinates.
There will be a short quiz on this tomorrow.
We took this same skill and applied it to some map reading skills. Here is a handout that we went through together.
Ariane volunteered to go to the front of the class to locate where she thought Toronto might be.
Over the next week, we will be doing some more map reading work and then moving on to look at the other quadrants in the Coordinate grid. To illustrate the way the x and y axis works is like a number line. This will make more sense once we look at little more at negative and positive numbers. One of the best ways to illustrate integers is to use a thermometer.
When it is warm, the temperatures are +, but when it cools down, the temperatures can be in the -. |
HOMEWORK:
- record definition of Prime Meridian and Equator into Geography notebook
- Quiz on coordinate points on grid (quadrant one)
Have a pleasant evening.
