The homework for tonight will consist of only 1 question from the Spelling work.  It is from Exploring Patters, question #1.  The students will have to use 5 list words to create:

1 Complex
1 Compound
3 Simple Sentences

They will have to use the words with the short o and spelled ow.  Here is a short review of the three type of sentences along with a list of the conjunctions that may be used with a Compound or Complex sentence:

The homework chart continues to be updated.  Some students are doing a very good job keeping track of their assignments and some are not.  The red Xs indicate incomplete assignments or homework:

We did spend an extended bit of time during Community Circle discussing how to respond to a Bully and deal with situations where one might lose their cool.  I based this exercise on our discussion from Friday's session with the facilitators from Abrigo.  Here is an image of the question we used and a few comments on the direction of the exercise:

I wanted this to be a thinking Community Circle.   I suppose it is no different than the others, but I really wanted the students to think about the power they have over controlling their actions.  Rather than lashing out in anger, most of the students were able to recognize other options that involved walking away, taking a deep breath, talking with an adult, or being assertive (if it was a safe thing to do).
