I wasn't sure if I had posted a blog on the Thursday before the long weekend, but I now realize that I did not. There was no homework.
Our exercise with Division is coming to a close. Some students experienced some new success in learning how to do Long Division, while others had some challenges. The Options for doing a Rewrite to improve their understanding and grade is available for the students who scored 50% or lower on the most recent test. I will be reviewing that test this afternoon.
A new unit in Math will begin tomorrow.
The History/Media/Language project is continuing. Some students, who have done their research are ready to begin working on the animation portion of the assignment. Just to refresh your memory, this has to do with the student generating 4 questions (Level 1 -4) and answers relating to a person or fact that is linked to the African diaspora (a group of people who have spread out all over the world who have roots in the continent of Africa).
Here is a screen shot of where we are in the project.
The students are setting up their account to begin inputting the questions and answers, based on their research.
**Here is a late update to the blog. Zhao Lun is demonstrating for the class the Xtranormal program. He will be fitting in his questions and answers into the online program (more photos of works-in-progress to come!).**
Room 52 will be hosting a film during the annual HotDocs film festival (http://www.hotdocs.ca/). The film is entitled Brooklyn Castle and I plan on screening it for the Grade 7 and 8 students at AMG. Here is the trailer for the film:
There was a journal entry due on Friday based on some key advice from the book I read on bucket filling. Here is that list:
Here is the question I asked and the answer I modelled for it:
Most of the students completed this and some did not.
ALL work that is being graded for evaluation is posted on the homework tracking chart in the back of the classroom.
There is another important item to note. On April 17, we will be attending a film that is part of the TIFF Kids International Film Festival. The film is from Turkey and called Know My Name. Here is the trailer for the film:
