Happy Easter and Happy Passover.
The class did a good job working through the first draft, of the first part, of their paragraphs. We will come back to them after the holidays and look at some more examples of paragraphs. I am hoping to have students exchange their drafts with one another and assess (not grade!!) the clarity of the draft. They were only responsible for putting the Topic Sentence and the supporting detail sentences together:
I have put up the "Success Chart" for the paragraph at the front of the class for the students to reference.
Our work on the SBR program continued. The homework from Wednesday (Making Sense of My Actions, Emotions and Thoughts) required some revision and I used the SMARTBoard to go through the lesson and sharing some of my own thoughts and experiences with them. Some of the work in this program is abstract but can be bridged through conversation. I am very encouraged by the conversations we have in class. It is likely that the Supervisor for our Family of Schools may visit to watch a session in action in Room 52!
I wanted to share a link from the Internet from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). This came up because we continued talking about the issue of testing on animals because of our reading of Half Brother. This group is concerned with how animals are treated. http://www.peta.org/
I wanted to balance this perspective by showing an example of a company which is concerned about the welfare of animals. The Body Shop has a page dedicated to explaining their values to customers: http://www.thebodyshop.ca/en/values-campaigns/index.aspx
I am enjoying the discussions we are getting into in class. I encourage you to talk with your son or daughter about the activities we do and discussions we have. Have a great long weekend. There will be no formal homework assigned to the class.
HOMEWORK: Read for 15 minutes per day, return "NEW" Camp Kawartha forms
